Ara Oghoorian

Ara Oghoorian founded ACap Asset Management in 2009 with a distinct vision: to combine comprehensive wealth management and expert tax planning under one roof. With over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, Ara recognized early on that most firms specialize in either investment management or accounting—but rarely both. ACap stands apart as one of the few firms that fully integrates both disciplines, offering clients coordinated financial strategies with the depth and precision of a Certified Public Accountant and the foresight of an investment advisor.
Ara began his career at Wells Fargo Bank in Huntington Beach at just 18 years old. He went on to spend nine years at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, where he traveled extensively, examining domestic and foreign banks as well as bank holding companies.
He later served as a U.S. diplomat with the U.S. Department of the Treasury, advising the Ministry of Finance and Economy in the Republic of Armenia. During this two-year international assignment, Ara also conducted advisory work in the Republics of Georgia and Latvia, where he developed audit systems and financial oversight procedures.
After returning stateside and gaining experience at a Washington, D.C.-area wealth management firm, Ara moved back to Los Angeles to fulfill his long-held dream of starting his own business. That vision became ACap Asset Management—now widely regarded as a premier, boutique firm that uniquely merges wealth management and accountancy services for a more holistic client experience.
Ara holds a degree in Finance from San Francisco State University and is a Commissioned Bank Examiner through the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner, Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Enrolled Agent, and holds the Series 65 license.
Ara is a director at both Mission Valley Bank and its holding company, Mission Valley Bancorp. He previously served on the board of the Water Buffalo Club and as Chairman of the Board for the Children’s Music Fund from 2013 to 2017.
In his free time, Ara enjoys playing tennis and pickleball, traveling, spending time at the beach, attending the opera, and being with his family.
